Hello Ukulele Aficionados and Live Music Supporters,

You are invited to an Ukulele Workshop and House Concert in Herndon, VA, on Saturday, July 14, 2018.

Donna and I are delighted to invite you to experience award-winning old time music and ukulele expert, author, and recording artist, Lil Rev, https://www.lilrev.com, live, up close, and personal in a comfortable setting.  A gift of a banjo ukulele when he was 16 years old ignited his passion for the instrument.  His performances feature a multitude of instruments and great story-telling.

A couple of testimonials:

  • Listen to this! Lil Rev is great! — Pete Seeger
  • Lil Rev isn’t an act, he’s real. — Joe Hickerson, Former Head of Library of Congress Folk Archive

After college, Lil Rev, taught elementary school music and was an adjunct music historian and lecturer at The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.  He began his performing music career as a street musician in the 1990’s.  After many years, he decided to pursue music full time.  He has travelled many hundreds of thousands of miles sharing his expertise.

Lil’ Rev is well known on the international ukulele scene as a protector of old songs and playing styles including early blues, Tin-Pan Alley, old time, Yiddish and American folk styles. He is also known for his passionate endeavors to preserve antiquated right hand strokes and strums and is in demand on the workshop circuit for this reason.  Rev is also an accomplished harmonica, guitar, banjo, and mandolin player.

He is a very serious student of music and musicians and he can demonstrate in an enlightening and entertaining performance specific techniques of old time masters.

Lil’ Rev is offering a 90 minute workshop at 3:00 p.m., Triplet Strokes Made Easy for Ukulele, open to all levels. This workshop is a fascinating in-depth exploration of the almighty triplet stroke and the variety of ways it can be played: two variations on the two-finger triplet, a three-finger triplet, the famous George Formby fan stroke, and more. He may add a couple of blues standards to try out our triplet patterns and learn some practice drills to help gain proficiency and speed.

Following the workshop, we will serve a pot luck dinner at 5:00 p.m.  Lil’ Rev’s concert will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Costs are $20 for the workshop separately, $10 for the concert separately, and $25 for both workshop and concert.

Seating is limited.  If you wish to attend either the workshop, concert, or both, please send an email to homeconcert@outlook.com, for our private home address and more.  In your reply, please state whether you wish to attend the workshop, concert, or both, and the names of those attending and whether each person is attending the workshop, concert, or both.  An email will be sent to you in response to your RSVP confirming your reservation.

Feel free to call Glen Hirabayashi, mobile 571 224-3067, if you have any questions.

Glen and Donna
